Note 1:
As mentioned above, both fireplaces considered here can be mounted like a TV set on the surface of the wall. They can not be recessed into the wall.

- They both come with 2 heat settings (2 modes: High and Low heat). They can also be used without heat selections to just display the flames and create a nice ambiance (3rd mode).
- At the High setting all sizes of these fireplaces of both brands generate more than 5000 BTUs.

So which of these two electric fireplaces is best for you?
The linear electric fireplaces considered here are excellent products as shown by the good reviews and excellent average rating each had received from Amazon customers at the time this article was written. Indeed, they had each received an average rating of 4.5 stars (out of 5 stars)! Therefore, there is a good chance that you would be quite happy with any of these fireplaces. As shown by the comparison table above, these two fireplaces come with similar features except for minor differences:
- PuraFlame Serena is equipped with a thermostat that allows you to set a desired temperature. Touchstone Onyx has no thermostat, but it does have the high heat, low heat and no-heat options. Also, PuraFlame Serena has touch screen buttons, while Touchstone Onyx comes with hard buttons. Finally, PuraFlame Serena gives you longer timer periods (up to 9 hours).
- Touchstone Onyx comes with both faux logs and crystals for the ember, while PuraFlame Serena comes only with faux logs.
Touchstone Onyx comes in two colors (black and white), while PuraFlame Serena comes only in black. Finally, Touchstone Onyx gives you slightly more flame brightness control options.
